The city of Split with about 200 000 inhabitants is the second largest city in Croatia and the administrative center of Split-Dalmatia County. Split is a big transport and touristic center with rich cultural and historical heritage. Split is situated on Marjan peninsula on the eastern side of the Adriatic coast, and the port of Split is the main connection with the islands of Dalmatia.
The heart & soul of Split is Diocletian's palace (in the list of UNESCO since 1979.) from 4. century, with many sights from the Roman Empire. During the summer days city is full of numerous entertainment and cultural events. Split has many beaches, the most famous being Bacvice where the World Cup in authentic game called ‘picigin’ is held.
